non-DD/reverb11 note: To those of you not following/participating in december daily or reverb11, never fear! I have regular posts planned in between my daily dd-reverb11 posts. Keep your eyes out for free downloads, my seaside love, and decking the doxie posts!
Today's Prompt (all prompts can be seen HERE):
December 3 - What storm did you weather?
Big or small... obstacle(s) did you overcome? Feel free to be literal if you prefer... was there an actual storm that you survived?
For this prompt, I could have gone the literal route - we had an earthquake (my first ever), hurricane and major flooding all within a couple weeks this past fall! But I decided to go with something else...read on to see/hear more.
Okay, I know it is only day 3 - but I am already so excited at how my little december daily is bulking up!
Here is the day page and you can see the new spread peeking out from the edge (and the back of yesterdays spread on the left):
I decided to make the page have storm cloud and rain drops to coincide with the theme, so I drew with Faber Castel brush pens and then wrote on top of my drawings. My topic was the dental drama I had the beginning of the year:
I talked about how I had 2 dental surgeries, and had braces put on in between. In the middle, I found and used a piece of a referral chart in my "dental" folder and cut it out and highlight which five (yes, FIVE) teeth I had extracted...
The inside of the day-page looked a bit plain, so I used a photo from my recent trip to Jenn Hayslip's event in Asheville, NC. In this photo is Lori Oles, Me, Karla Nathan (who we have to thank for the photo) and Andrea - they thing is - I am far enough away that while I am smiling big, you cannot see my braces - and my teeth look so nice! I used a vintage label maker to type out "smile".
That's it! See you tomorrow for our next prompt!
love love love your december daily journal style! :)

My greatest storms were internal this year. I weathered them in the same way I do everything that unsettles me: with lack of grace, lack of gratitude and a constant eye on the learning!
What I realised is that I'm lucky to have people around me who love me despite (and maybe even because of these things. And that learning to love this part of me is the only way to lessening its impact.
